RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Take designs, concepts, sample layouts, and create engineering drawings.
· Use computer software to generate new drawings.
· Figure out size and fit arrangement of consumer products.
· Evaluate design ideas to work with in house manufacturing based on aesthetics, human factors, usability, functionality, durability, and cost.
· Decide manufacturing processes and materials.
· Participate in the quoting process by providing product specifications and manufacturing process.
· Review quotes for accuracy.
· Manage proto-typing with “hands-on” approach until product is ready for manufacturing.
· Support questions that may arise in manufacturing.
· Work closely with other departments (purchasing, manufacturing, and customer service) and suppliers to reduce cost and improve quality and lead times.
· Effectively communicate on a technical and non-technical level with members of other departments, suppliers and/or customers.
· Create material takeoffs according to sketches or engineering specifications.
· Research and specify materials to be used on products.
· Interact with Design and Engineering to ensure bill of materials are accurate and up to date. Review and audit BOM’s to ensure they reflect the latest manufacturing practices.
· Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data affecting engineering and manufacturing procedures.
· Assist in maintaining document control and produce bill of materials using Excel.
· Create manufacturing instructions.
· Modify and revise engineering to manufacturing processes to reduce production challenges.
· Analyze information and evaluate to choose the best solutions and solve challenges.
· Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
· Create documents.
· Engineering of product.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
· A bachelor’s degree in drafting, graphic design, engineering, or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered.
· 1-3 years of experience in product design and engineering.
· Developed skills in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
· Sustains ongoing development of skills within computer graphics and design programs.
· Advanced computer competency required in Microsoft Office and for ability to work within company software programs.
· Experience in furniture and/or cabinet design, retail design, or merchandising preferred.
· Experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Extremely detail oriented.
· Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills used in completing tasks.
· Handles a fast-paced environment and deadline pressures well, planning and carrying out responsibilities with minimal direction.
· A positive, proactive demeanor resulting in superior teamwork and collaboration with team members while demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
· Ability to read, write and speak English fluently to communicate effectively with team members within and external to department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
· Must be able to work in an office environment with other team members and moderate noise levels up to 8 hours a day.
· Must be able to sit at a desk up to 8 hours per day.
· Must be able to use hands and fingers for daily work on computer and department tasks.
· Must be able to use vision to review department work, including close vision on a computer screen.
· Must be able to communicate by using and hearing a telephone.
· Must be able to occasionally stand and walk to interact with production team in manufacturing environment which could include lifting, twisting, bending, reaching, and gripping.
· Must be able to occasionally work in a manufacturing setting for department tasks that may include environmental factors of noise, dust, chemical fumes, hot weather, and cold weather.
