Plastic Process Engineer - 1st Shift jdd

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded as necessary.

Provide process and technical support:

Demonstrate process engineering expertise in molding for the applicable facility:

injection, and compression/transfer molding thermoplastic, liquid silicone rubber, and high consistency rubber

Ensure new products are "ready for production" prior to release with up front input to Tooling, Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ) and ownership of the Performance Qualification (PQ) or otherwise as required.

Ability to develop and deploy scientific molding principles to include diverting or controlling processes based on key parameters.

Support, assess, and qualify processes for transfer tooling programs.

Ability to perform initial set ups for both new and supplied molds and convert best practices to documented instructions with visual method for proper plumbing, tool function, and other considerations.

Document process optimizations and process qualifications and communicate the qualified process ranges using the Universal Process Sheet (UPS) and process monitoring tools.

Develop training materials and trains process and set-up technicians.

Define, document, and train operators in standard work methods.

Employ problem solving and continual improvement techniques.

Seek self-development such as participating in professional forums or attending authorized seminars and training.

Evaluate and improve existing production jobs achieving productivity gains in material, labor, and overhead on non-capable processes and prioritizing opportunities.

Identify waste and cost reduction opportunities and champion projects to completion to include production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product improvements.

Interface with cross functional members of the production, tool room, engineering, and quality assurance staffs to identify and resolve root of problems and meet plant objectives.

Provide tooling assessments to solve on-going tooling concerns, increase tool life, and reduce down-time due to tooling related issues.

Support production with solving processing issues and perform sets ups on occasion to meet customer orders.

General:

Follow necessary Operating Procedures and Instructions.

General understanding of ERP system, data base, and bill-of-manufacture to ensure accurate and current pertinent information is available to all employees.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Work closely with production supervisors to coordinate set-up & processing priorities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

Minimum 5-years of hands-on molding Process Engineering experience

Technical degree (Bachelor) is preferred; may consider comparable work experience

Knowledge and experience with variety of materials and molding process equipment and application of scientific molding principles

Experience with secondaries such as deflashing, pad printing, sonic welding, milling

Applied scientific principles in production setting

Comfortable working in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment

Good time management and communication skills (oral and written)

Act as mentor/trainer and transfer processing knowledge to others

Possess basic computer skills and knowledge

Self-motivated with a hands-on, take-ownership approach

Strong team player

Analytical skills for objective-based decisions
