How important is the ability to pass the 6G open TIG root on heavy pipe weld test?

It impacts the $/hr. rate. These are high pressure Xray quality welds. We weld ½” thick plate up to 6” thick plate. Vessels are designed from 150 psi to 5700 psi. If a welder cannot meet this test, there is lower quality welds needed as well.

To fit and weld ASME pressure vessels per drawings:

Will report to fabrication shop foreman.

Will be required to get an ATF employee possessor form for handling high explosives.

Knowledge of and experience with TIG and FCAW welding. SAW a plus.

Able to pass 6G open TIG root on heavy pipe weld test

Will need to grind and cut as required.

Will need to be able to read drawings.

Will provide QC reports as required to the QC manager.

Will get OSHA 10 card

Will be involved in other special projects at the shop and occasional field operations.

Knowledge of other welding procedures and a large variety of materials.

Knowledge of machinery, tooling, and equipment important as this position requires an ability to solve problems while working in a small or large crew situation.

Some computer skills in Word and Excel are also important so information can be transmitted from the field.

Will need the ability to organize materials and tooling.

Valid driver’s license and approval of insurance for driving

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Experience in welding out of position and subject to a high level of inspection such as X-Ray and phased array UT.

Knowledge of ASME Welding and ASNT is helpful.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Experience in Fabrication Shop environment. Able to train less skilled technicians.

Quick thinking and adaptive responses in a small and very agile, technical, international, and growth business.

An ability to communicate with the field, machine shop and engineering when issues and operational concerns arise.

Able to read technical specifications and drawings.
